SUI JIANGUO 隋建国

One of the leading figures in contemporary sculpture in China, Sui Jianguo continues to investigate the relationship between sensory experience, spatial cognition, and the body. In his latest work, Revealed Trace, he employs new materials and advanced digital technologies to capture the essence of void and matter as they emerge from the simplest of physical interactions — the closing of a hand, the pressure of a grip. The marks he leaves are abstract and non-representational, yet through them, fleeting gestures are permanently manifested as tangible sculptural form.

Sui Jianguo graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Shandong University of the Arts in 1984 and received his MFA from the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in 1989. He is a senior professor in the Department of Sculpture at CAFA in Beijing, where he lives and works.
